Plant-Based Foods to Throw on Your Grill This Summer
This summer, a time when grills across the nation are fired up in the name of celebrating family and delicious food. Instead of loading up your grill with tons of meat this year, consider adding a bunch of flavorful, plant-based foods to the menu. Not only is it better for the environment and for your health, but you’ll be following the advice your dad gave you as a kid: eat your vegetables!
Summer Vegetable Kebobs
June often means an abundance of summer squash, onions, and sometimes mushrooms and eggplants. Gather up your favorite grill-able veggies and pop ‘em on to a skewer for your grill, and your delight. You can marinate them or slather them with a creamy pesto sauce just before you serve.
Homemade Seitan Sausages
There’s no reason you can’t have a hot dog on Father’s Day! Sausages made from seitan are free from animal products (and byproducts, ew) and are much more Earth-friendly. Try out this recipe and top them with your favorite condiments.
Grilled Romaine
Salads are great foods to help beat the heat. Did you know there are some greens you can also throw on the grill? Grilled romaine makes a delightful summer side, especially with a creamy, plant-based Caesar dressing.
Mini Pizzas
If you’ve never cooked a pizza on the grill, you’re missing out! All you
need to do is split up a pre-made crust into smaller sizes, roll them out, top with your favorite toppings, and grill for 10-15 minutes. You can make a great BBQ Chik’n pizza by using BBQ sauce, red onion, plant-based chik’n strips, and plant-based cheese!
Street Corn on the Cob
This side is bursting with flavor! Slathered with a vegan mayo, lime juice,
cilantro, and a dash of heat, this street corn will blow your guests away. Be prepared by having your recipe handy because people will ask you for it!
Polenta Fries
Slice up some polenta into sticks and throw them on your grill for a few minutes. Get fancy with different dipping sauces and your family will have a new favorite cookout side dish in no time.

In the last year, veggie burgers have taken off to heights never before
imagined. Beyond Meat has a burger that sizzles on your grill like the real thing and it’s available at more and more stores across the U.S. every week. You can also whip up some homemade patties from scratch!

Grab some aluminum foil to create these dreamy grilled banana boats! Create a packet with the foil and throw in a banana, some chocolate chips, vegan marshmallows, a sprinkle of cinnamon – any flavor combination you like. Close up the packet and grill for a few minutes. Open up to reveal the perfect summer treat.
Grilled Peaches
Dessert on your grill can sometimes be even tastier than your main course. Grilling peaches brings out the sweetness of the fruit and transforms it into a superb caramelized treat. Serve over some almond-milk ice cream, if you dare.
