Welcome to My World – Happy New Year: The Next Day – Hangover Survival Guide

Hello World!   Apparently, today I’ve woken up on what my mother used Emoticon, Emoji, Sad, Yellow, Faceto call “the wrong side of the bed“. I didn’t sleep well last night because of the noise. It sounded like a “war zone” outside my house as none of the rednecks around here do anything but shoot off bottle rockets all night. I’d think that going to watch a “real” fire works display would be much more entertaining, but not in this neighborhood.  That’s not what they find entertaining; nor do they care about any of their neighbors.Face, Sad, Confused, Man, Woman, People

You’re thinking “She’s an old fuddy-duddy”. Well, I’ve never liked fire crackers, bottle rockets, etc.; Even as a kid. I knew someone who lost a finger shooting them off. I don’t really think it’s worth it. There are more entertaining ways to spend a holiday (& it doesn’t have to cost a lot; probably less than those rockets cost).

It is restricted (as in illegal) according to our deed restrictions, but no one does squat about it. At least, most of them cleaned up after themselves. That in itself surprised me. Well, enough said about this. Maybe some day, I may be able to afford to move. In the meantime, I should be grateful for a roof over my head. Dang, I sure did get up on the wrong side of the bed… Enough.  Smiley, Smiling, Smile, Face, Tongue

Found something appropriate for today when searching online. I will share it with you. (I sound like this would apply to me, but I didn’t drink last night).

Hangover Survival Guide

Before you start in on the champagne, Champagne, Bottle, Drink, Beverage get prepared with these strategies to keep the morning-after hangover at bay.

Before:  Chug, chug, chug!
Start early & keep knocking it back all night—we’re talking about water, of course. Dehydration shrinks the tissues around your brain, leaving you with a pounding headache in the morning. Don’t wait until the end of the tonight to chug a few glasses before bed—alternate each alcoholic beverage with a glass of water throughout the evening.

Skip your afternoon yoga class:  Sure, cocktails after yoga sounds like a great afternoon—but research has found that alcohol delays your body’s rehydration process when you indulge half an hour post-workout, making it more likely that you’ll get dehydrated over happy hour.

Load up on asparagus: Asparagus, Green, Green Asparagus Not sure what to have for lunch before an evening out? Asparagus, according to 2009 research. Scientists found that its amino acids & minerals may alleviate your hangover & protect liver cells.  And don’t be shy about sautéing it in butter—fat is great for slowing the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream. (Interesting)

During:  Stick to one glass – At least when it comes to champagne.           Carbonation— Glass, Champagne, Bubbly, Glasswareso the same goes for soda mixers—causes you to absorb alcohol faster & feel the ill effects sooner.

Drink light;  Dark drinks contain more byproducts of materials used during fermentation, than clear & light beverages do—& your body can tell the difference. In one study, researchers found that bourbon, which has 37 times the amount of byproducts than vodka has, caused a worse hangover in the morning.

Pick the right snacks:  Not all bar food is created equal. Nosh on stuff that replenishes potassium—alcohol causes you to urinate more, during which nutrients like potassium (important for nerve & muscle function) get depleted. Dark, leafy greens are a great source, but if you’re not in the mood for salad, potato chips or fries will also get the job done.

After:  Get outside – Still feeling a little queasy the morning after? Go for aCat, Hangover, Cats, Pet, Red, White walk to increase your oxygen level & speed up the metabolism of alcohol in your body.

Go to brunch:  Just make sure you’re ordering the right stuff. You’ll want to pick things that contain cysteine, an amino acid that that counteracts the effects of hangover-causing toxin acetaldedhyde—you’ll find it in eggs, broccoli, red pepper, & onions (hello, omelette!), as well as yogurt, oats, & dairy.  Hash, Eggs, Food, Meal, Potato, Plate
